LVMH Prize 2019
by Abdon FLORES
The LVMH prize has its shortlist for the 2019 edition. The five previous editions have seen names as Marques’Almeida, Hood by Air or Jacquemus among the winners. The impulse that such a prize implies is strong: 300,000 € plus a personalized technical and financial support from the Group for a 12-month period following the award (this includes all the areas of expertise that are critical to a young fashion brand, intellectual property, sourcing, production and distribution, image and advertising, and marketing.)
Among the 20 fashion designers shortlisted for semi-final, 8 create womenswear, 7 menswear and 5 gender-neutral collections. In order to select the 8 finalists, the shortlisted designers will present their collections to 63 international fashion experts during the showroom of the Prize held on March 1st and 2nd at the Louis Vuitton headquarters in Avenue Montaigne. Stefano Tonchi, Emanuelle Alt, Carine Roitfeld, Susy Menkes, Loïc Pringent, Path McGrath, Karlie Kloss, Naomi Campbell, Tim Blanks and Chiara Ferragni are some of the experts. Gigi and Bella Hadid were happy to join the designers during the cocktail of the showroom.
The designers come from 15 countries: Bulgaria, Canada, China, France, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Japan, the Netherlands, Nigeria, South Africa, South Korea, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. Sustainable and ethical fashion is also making a stand, with several designers integrating this approach into their brand identity. Furthermore, some of the semi-finalists are involved in the field of innovation, both in terms of the materials and the techniques they use. The pictures above show the work of Susan Fang, Lecavalier, Anrealage and 3. Paradis.
