Messine : workspace by Kwerk
Kwerk, a leading name in exceptional workspaces, unveils its latest address at 16 Avenue de Messine. This project, led by co-founder and architect-designer Albert Angel, reinterprets a historic 1875 building, blending the elegance of its heritage with a bold contemporary vision. Inspired by the artist Do Ho Suh, Albert Angel explores an architecture that plays with perception.
The lobby, the centerpiece of Messine, embodies this approach. Its grand dome, woven like a spider’s web, appears to be suspended in space. Crafted over 7,000 hours by French artisans, it captures and reflects light, creating an ephemeral illusion. The mouldings, reimagined with amplified and surprising proportions, redefine classical design codes. They extend throughout the spaces, offering a striking and innovative interpretation of traditional architectural details.
This duality continues in the furniture, carefully selected or designed by Albert Angel. In the lobby, bespoke armchairs combine ceramic with bouclé fabric, blending with the airy textures and diffused light of the dome. Bistro chairs from Kartell collections, upholstered in Emilio Pucci fabrics, enhance this universe. Their vibrant, acid-toned seats interact with the reinterpreted classical architectural elements.
This quest for balance extends into the barista area, inspired by the old boys’ clubs, where custom-designed Chesterfield sofas create a warm, inviting atmosphere. Handcrafted stained glass by L’Âme du Vitrail tells the story of Kwerk’s various locations through a delicate interplay of light and color, prolonging this poetic narrative.
