Millenary Frosted Gold Philosophique by Audemars Piguet
by Abdon FLORES
The new Millenary Frosted Gold Philosophique by Audemars-Piguet pays homage to those watches made in the 18th century which had only one hand to indicate the hour. This was mainly due to facilitate energy transmission. Nowadays this feature is far from the chronological precision developed by watchmaking. Thus, Audemars-Piguet wanted to recover this concept to give women a different sense to read time and, consequently, a different rapport to it.
The Millenary is a model made for women and is equipped with a new selfwinding movement, calibre 3140; it is endowed with a patented mechanism which ticks the hand around the dial in an elliptical trajectory. Since it first appeared in 1995, the Millenary has been a canvas for creativity with its elliptical case, eccentric dials and visible hand-wound movement. Inspired by architecture and art, this watch of contrasts intertwines technical savoir-faire and innovative design.
The 18-carat pink or gray gold case presents alternating satin brushing and Frosted Gold finishing, a technique Audemars Piguet owes to Florentine jewelry designer Carolina Bucci. The diamond-dust effect it creates nicely contrasts with the hand-polished bevels adorning the case and lugs. It has 43 jewels, 50 hours of power reserve, 39.5 mm case and a price of 30,000 €.
