Ducasse Education by Alain Ducasse

France is one of those countries where Gastronomy must be written in capital letters. It is probably the country where food has a fundamental role, day after day, in every French home. Not surprisingly the métier of chef has evolved in such a way that chefs are seen almost as artists whose art meets science and empirical knowledge. Yes, you can call them sorcerers too.

Alain Ducasse is one of these glowing stars of gastronomy. A chef that has won many Michelin stars for his restaurants and who is one of the remaining giants in a rather exclusive list of names. Of course he is someone that needs no further presentation. Mr. Ducasse, as any great master, decided years ago to pass his knowledge to the young ones, the new generations that will preserve a very specific savoir-faire. Such is the origin of Ducasse Education, a vast education center devoted to teach the difficult art of gastronomy.

Founded in 1999, Ducasse Education has transmitted outstanding expertise in culinary and pastry arts through its network of schools in France (Centre de Formation Alain Ducasse, Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Pâtisserie, Ecole de Cuisine Alain Ducasse.) Academic programs include bachelor’s degrees, courses for career changers and continuous professional training, as well as private courses for food enthusiasts, delivered across three schools in France and partnerships with overseas universities.

The big news is that the Centre de Formation Alain Ducasse established in Argenteuil (Northwest of Paris), will move in 2020 to a new 5,000 m² campus in Meudon (Southwest of Paris). This new campus will be the flagship of Ducasse Education’s ambitions to train tomorrow’s global culinary experts and restaurant stakeholders. The rather modern and bespoke building was designed by Arte Charpentier Architectes; the interior design was in charge of atelier Jouin Manku.

A new actor has made this possible; the education group specialized in hospitality management and the culinary arts, Sommet Education which has become a majority shareholder in Ducasse Education. Its institutions Glion and Les Roches, with campuses in Switzerland, Spain, China and the UK, provide undergraduate and graduate students from more than 100 countries with an education experience built on the Swiss model of academic rigour, skills-based learning and dynamic multicultural exposure. Hence, for the rentrée 2020, a new culinary center will shine in France with light of master chef Alain Ducasse.
