Yolancris FW 19/20 couture

by Abdon FLORES

For sure, Edgar Allan Poe will always be a rich source of inspiration; the only issue with Poe would be avoiding a too strong influence. For the FW19 couture season, the Catalan brand Yolancris decided to try with the bard of Baltimore and incorporate his vision into clothes. The result is evocative; you actually perceive some of the looks as characters of Poe’s short stories. And that’s an achievement since we are not talking about mere costume dresses but handmade couture garments whose purpose is to be worn on special occasions.

There is also a touch of Art Nouveau in the gowns; you could almost say that Gloria Swanson was walking along the runaway in some of the looks. Even if Yolancris is known by its polychromic collections, this FW19 was dark with radical contrasts of black and white, a clear instance of what it’s called graphic style. Yolanda Pérez, the creative director, acknowledged that there was also an influence from the 60s and 70s, notably the graphics of the French designer Louis Féraud.

The British brand Sophia Webster was in charge of the footwear and the beautiful jewelry that challenged the beauty of the Spanish embassy salons -where the show took place- was done by Roselinde and was inspired by natural landscapes of the Canary Islands. A sublime fashion show that confirmed Yolancris as one of the most talented and creative brands in Spain.
