Oh la la! Hotel Bar
by Abdon FLORES
Even if in their origins they were conceived not to be found, speakeasies are nowadays a less hidden secret. Many speakeasies have open in Paris in the last years, bringing with them the spirit of a turbulent and risky time. Julien and Romain Trollet found a new tour de force regarding these peculiar bars and joined their experience to launch the Oh la la! Hotel Bar, which is a bar with a hotel in a speakeasy mode.
A hotel hidden by a bar… the concept plays with irony, and if we take into account that Oh la la! is located in one corner of Place de la Bastille -where French revolution began- we can really state that the concept can be revolutionary. But what exactly is Oh la la! Hotel Bar? Well, in the morning -from 7 am- is a place where you can take a café-croissannt; from 17h is a well assorted cocktail bar; and all the time is a 3 star hotel with 16 rooms.
Julien Trollet knows quite a deal the bar business: he’s the owner of Pile ou Face, Mini Pong and RPR Le Repaire. Instead his brother Romain is an hôtelier (Assas Hotels). They hired OTSO, a young architecture design bureau in order to achieve the idea they had in mind. Anna Leymergie and Lancelot Letellier from OTSO did a clean and sort of classic job concerning interior design. Eight rooms are designed in such a way that everything revolves around beds, heightened by a base of parquet and with a splendid view of Place de la Bastille.
Even if Oh la la! has a street appearance of a bar, its hotel features are rather important. Fourteen of the rooms are double or twins, and the other two are triple rooms. Prices start at 90 €. Located in the rather hype rue de la Roquette, this bar and hotel offers a great option to know Paris at its best.
