Manish Arora FW 19/20
by Antonio IRDA
“Finally normal people” is the ironic title chosen by Manish Arora to name his FW 19/20 ready to wear collection. More than ever, one could feel being in a Mythological gods pantheon while seeing the bunch of creatures that populated the American Cathedral for this theatrical show.
The collection comprised a crew of Mad Max bohemians straight out of a dystopian future. Shielded by jewel-encrusted reflective visors, apocalyptic androids swept through dusty desert landscapes in sandy tones and flame licked floor-length trenches, scrawled with graffiti. M. Arora vision of Armageddon is always going to somehow remain an upbeat experience of rose-coloured hues, sunset oranges and punchy fluoros.
Art Deco elements nodded to the original Charleston party girls – reimagined as futuristic flappers flouting social conventions in bugle beaded scalloped dresses, teamed with fluorescent mesh sneakers and LED backpacks. A sort of far-flung travelers have gathered into a world tribe – a fusion of Navajo, Indian, Tribal and Americana. But specially, one can say that on this collection spiritualism rubbed shoulders with pop art and Hollywood glamour in optic cartoon prints, swirling psychedelia and sequins.
