Fatima Lopes FW19/20

by Abdon FLORES

It’s been twenty years that Portuguese fashion designer Fatima Lopes shows her ready-to-wear collections in Paris. It is not easy to reach two decades showing in the Parisian fashion week, that’s why her 41st fashion show had an air of celebration and was held at the Portuguese embassy, an opulent precinct for an important occasion.

The collection was devoted to the spirit of Portugal; words like “saudade”, “serra” or even “Lisboa” were, in many ways, reflected on the collection. The Portuguese soul, always melancholic, was also present on the garments that included structured coats, shouldered dresses, and many, many cocktail clothes that reflect an unexpected joie de vivre for such a melancholic people as Lusitanians.

Probably the most important Portuguese fashion designer, Fatima Lopes continues her career in a rather prominent spot in the fashion geography of her country.
