Tony Ward SS19 – Couture
by Abdon FLORES
Insects seem to be an appealing source of inspiration for fashion if we take into account the complicated, flabbergasting patterns that most of them show. For Lebanese designer Tony Ward this is a certitude, since he got his inspiration from dragonflies to create his spring/summer couture collection, Anatomy of a Wing, a panoply of fairish garments meticulously dissected in an ample hall.
Well yes, the gowns floated in a fast yet graceful movement on the catwalk while graceful wings and voluminous structures were following a certain beat. Wings were conceived by handmade holographic embroideries, a colossal savoir faire rendering fruitful results. After thousands of working hours, the gowns came to life showing exoskeletons replicating the stand out behavior of the Dragonfly: an elegant woman conquering the high places of fanciness.
