Le grand bleu
by Abdon FLORES
Just a few Celsius degrees above 15 and a blue sky are the go signals for Parisians to run to the closest terrace for spare time. The options are certainly many, but there is nothing like a new spot, a new view, new people and, of course, a different menu to seduce the demanding Parisian standards.
At Port de l’Arsenal, near Bastille, Le Grand Bleu seems to gather all the aforementioned attributes. A new owner usually means full change, at that’s what recently happened on this well-known site. Even if it’s by the Seine, the panorama brings to mind Saint Malô in Brittany. The Scandinavian interior has a surface of 150 m² with plenty of room to stretch the legs, and the terrace is even bigger for it can accommodate up to 400 people, far from the normal Parisians dimensions.
Chef Santiago Federici Cuadro Valdes proposes an iodic menu: oysters, lobster carpaccio, bream ceviche, sole… but also there are typical dishes any terrace offers like prosciutto, risotto, French cheese and a fair selection of wines. With mixology being still a trend on the capital, the cocktail bar is a plus. Experienced barmen Sali and Philippe Salgueiro revisit some cocktails classics, while ambiance is modulated every day of the week by different trendy Dj’s.
