BASELWORLD 2018

The Murano paperweights will always shine in our memory as those micro universes where dreams come from. Trapped in a crystal bubble, a conglomerate of tiny asymmetric shapes seem to be alive and palpitant. Nonetheless, paperweights are old fashioned objects, a decor belonging to another epoch. Well, specialist Swiss Made watchmaking and jewellery Achor Group SA had a terrific idea: to make a watch of Murano glass and revive the millefiori pattern in our wrists.

Such is the origin of YUNIK, the new watch Achor Group is presenting in Baselworld 2018. The brand’s claim is simple: “Just like You”. Like their wearers, these time pieces are unusual and unique, watches that are sure to attract attention. And you bet they can! A true icon of Venetian glassmaking culture, Murano glass is special in that every piece is unique. Its shimmering colours and unstructured curves are created according to traditional craftsmanship, the secrets of which are still fiercely guarded today by master glassmakers.

 

 

Achor Group SA is giving the brand a modern ethos in tune with the young generation. At this year’s Baselworld, YUNIK is unveiling an extremely varied selection intended to express the personality of every individual, notably including a collection of larger-sized round watches and a range of tonneau-shaped pieces, as well as series featuring self-winding or hand-wound mechanical movements. The brand has also developed new variations of murrine –the Italian term for multicoloured glass canes, formed and combined while hot, then cut crossways.

Each piece of Murano glass is unique, both in terms of colour and design. Measuring 36 mm in diameter, the case with integrated dial is a masterpiece. The movement is quartz, Swiss made, 5½’’’, RONDA 751 calibre, 7-year autonomy. They come with a Screw-down anti-allergenic steel case back, integrated lugs, splash-resistant. The dial is on scratch resistant sapphire crystal. A timeless piece in all regards.
