ziad nakad ss18 – couture

by Abdon FLORES

The Demeter collection created by Lebanese designer Ziad Nakad makes a clear appeal to mother Earth. By taking as inspiration the Greek goddess of wheat, Mr. Nakad had an inherent license to play with colors and textures of Nature: the pale blue of the firmament, the yellow and gold of the wheat, the green of the earth, the coral of the ocean and the bronze trees at sunset.

An already experienced designer, he’s aware what his clientele wants. The rather ornamented gowns illuminated the runaway in the beautiful Salon Imperial of the Westin Vendôme. Not only the show scenography had an earthly touch with a wheat field in the podium, but the dresses themselves were ornamented with silvery patterns of cereal spikes and other foliage, moving wisely along the body.

About forty looks largely sufficed to express the idea of a telluric creation where ball and cocktail robes occupy a central theme in Mr. Nakad universe. His dexterity was broadly shown on the final piece of the collection, a bridal dress whose four meters train and ample skirt aroused the audience emotions.
