Art Meets Art – Perfumes

by Abdon FLORES

It is said that music is a fundamental element in people’s life; there are even some who admit that life without music would be unbearable. And they might be right. That’s why the new French creative studio Art Meets Art decided to marry music with the complex and deep universe of perfumes. This olfactory “venture” is composed by four renowned names: Christophe Raynaud, Frank Voelkl, Fabrice Pellegrin and Alberto Morrillas.

Masters on the fragrances domain, they came up with the idea of creating perfumes inspired by cult songs. A remarkable, yet simple idea that already generated six perfumes for the studio’s first collection. Probably one of the hardest parts in this creative process is to select the song to work with. There are thousands of choices. So far, the noses managed to choose five: Like a virgin (Alberto Morrillas), Like a virgin Limited edition (Fabrice Pellegrin), I put a spell on you (Alberto Morrillas), Lilac wine (Frank Volkl), Sexual healing (Christophe Raynaud) and the Mexican/Spanish classic Bésame mucho (Christophe Raynaud).

Each song saw its soul be reinterpreted as a perfume, except for Madonna’s Like a virgin which had a regular and a limited edition. As a matter of fact, songs are actually the perfume’s name, which is a strong way to identify these cult perfumes. For sure it’s difficult to communicate with words the so complex olfactory world; just to mention that soul singer Marvin Gaye might never thought that Sexual healing could smell to honey as well as Nina Simone would be flabbergasted by the fresh aroma Wine lilac distils.

Eau de parfum 50 ml: 75 €.
